Tomb Raider Review

Stepping into the theater I wasn’t sure what to expect from Tomb Raider. Most videogame to movie adaptations are complete failures with films like Super Mario Bros. and Resident Evil as terrible front runners. However, the trailers for the movie seemed promising so maybe this could be a game changer?

THE MOVIE

The story is about a young woman named Lara Croft who is following a trail left by her fathers work 7 years after he has passed. She must travel through never before seen lands and unfamiliar country to get to the bottom of her fathers findings. Throughout the movie there are many high energy and invigorating scenes where Lara’s bravery and persistence show through. Whether it be an intense battle scene or an exhausting journey she never stops fighting for what she wants and will stop at nothing to learn the truth.

THE EXPERIENCE

The movie took many liberties when compared to its videogame counter part. It was extremely loosely based on the game with a few resemblences being Lara’s name and the fact that she is a strong female character. Other than that the movie took its own direction. This may be frustrating to some videogame loving movie goers, but in all honestly the movie was okay. I think its premise was strong with a daughter following her fathers research, but it was quickly paced. In some parts of the movie it would give no explanation of how a character got to a certain location. This I assume was done to speed up the 2 hour movie but it still would of been nice to throw in a clue or two. The movie isn’t very believable aswell. The fact that a young woman can get lucky so many times whether it be with a lethal situation or finding a needle in a haystack just does not sit well with me. I feel as if the movie just pushes along hoping that its audience is dumb enough to believe what’s on screen and hopefully fill in the blanks. However, the movie should not take away from the leading actresses good performance and obvious hard work on the role.

FINAL THOUGHTS

I believe Tomb Raider needs some work but is still enjoyable to see if you want something mindless to watch with action and adventure.

Thanks for reading!!!

Remember always be adventurous!

Sincerely,

Alexa
